SWAT

The Mansfield SWAT Team was founded in 1996. The Team was originally formed as a tactical entry unit for high risk warrants service. As times changed the need for a multi-purpose Team became evident. Through specialized training and advanced schools the Team evolved from an Entry Team into a highly trained and multipurpose SWAT Team capable of handling even the most dangerous of situations.

The Team is trained to handle a large range of situations to include, but not limited to:

1. High risk warrant service
2. Hostage situations
3. Barricaded subjects
4. Active shooters
5. Jail riots
6. High risk search and arrest warrants

The Team adheres to the National Tactical Officers Associations standard of 16 hours of specialized training per month. Additionally the following specialized training was achieved by the members of the Mansfield SWAT Team:

Team = Advanced SWAT school

Team = Advanced Hostage rescue

Team = MP5 / M16 full automatic weapon operator school.

Team = Rappel school

Team = Chemical agent / Noise Flash Device use and deployment

Team = Rapid response to an active shooter

Sniper = Intermediate sniper operations at Ft. Walters, TX.

The Team is composed of members from the Mansfield Police Department and Mansfield Fire Department that can complete and maintain a high physical standard, excellent weapons proficiency and advanced tactical skills. The Team is formed from members of the following:

Patrol Division

Narcotics Division

Criminal Investigation Division

Mansfield Fire Department

Reserve Division

Members of the Team have received instructor level certifications in the following:

Mp5 / M16 full automatic weapon
Chemical agent / Noise Flash Devise use and deployment
Rappel instructors
Impact munitions
Active shooter response Defensive tactics

Annually the Team participates in the following:

1 week dedicated to advanced tactics and weapons

Instructor level schools (weapons or equipment)

Leadership / tactical planning schools

Yearly SWAT conference

Yearly SWAT Olympics

Two support personnel that are trained in all the specialized equipment and SWAT Vehicle usage supplement the Team. These two individuals bring special skills that assist the Team in many ways such as:

Equipment maintenance
Vehicle up keep
Perimeter containment
Equipment manufacture

These are just a few, of the many, functions these support personnel provide to the Team.
