The Mansfield Police Department is preparing for this
years summer day camp for the youth in our area. The camp is scheduled
to be held June 9-13, 2008. The campers will be 6th through 8th grade
kids. The cost for the week long day camp is $100.00 per camper.
The camp is open first to the citizens of Mansfield.
With space allowed, applications will be opened up to Mansfield area
residents (MISD jurisdiction) a few weeks after it is opened to citizens
of Mansfield, space permitting.
Our focus is team building, communication, self-esteem,
and decision making. It is vital that we focus on this age group because
this is when life changing decisions began in the lives of these children.
It is very important to us that a positive relationship with law enforcement
be developed during this time.
During the week we will take field trips throughout
the metroplex, inter-mixing fun with our focus. We will end the week
with a low and high ropes challenge course at a local university. It
is amazing watching this age group accomplish tasks they have never
done before, especially if they did not previously believe they could.
The police department is seeking assistance from the
community to sponsor the camp. Donations will be used for scholarships,
meals, and transportation. Please contact Officer Phillip if you are
interested in investing in this program. We are also looking for items
/ prizes for goody bags for students.

The
Mansfield Police Department Community Resource Division presented this
years summer day camp. The summer day camp was for kids going into 6th
through 8th grades. The dates for the camp were June 20 - 24, 2005.
Our focus for these young people was team building, communication skills
and building their self-esteem. The kids participate in activities each
day that worked towards these three attributes. The interaction between
this age groups and the police department is also beneficial in building
a trust with law enforcement.
During
the week long camp the kids were also taken on field trips each day
throughout the metroplex. Some of these field trips are geared toward
team building, communication and trust.
The cost of putting on the camp includes transportation,
field trips and fees, some meals and t-shirts. The tuition per camper
was $100.00 which helps cover some of the expenses, but it does not
cover the entire week. We do not want to increase the tuition because
some parents will have difficulty paying the current cost.
The
city is able to budget for part of the cost. We are seeking donations
from our citizens and businesses in our community to cover the rest
of the expenses. We are seeking to raise $4,500.00 for the remainder
of the expenses to provide the camp to kids in 2006. Your donation is
tax deductible. The money donated will be used wisely and invested into
the youth of Mansfield. The money raised may also be used for scholarships
to help defer the cost of tuition for parents who cannot afford to pay
the entire $100.00 for their child. We will be providing T-shirts for
this years campers and on the back of the T-shirts we will include the
sponsor's names for the camp. We would like to thank the citizens and
businesses of Mansfield for their continued support of the police department
and our programs.
Donations for the camp may be taken to the Mansfield
Police Department Public Safety Building located at 1305 East Broad
Street.
If you have any questions in relation to the summer day camp please
contact the Mansfield Community Resource Division.
